We have always had animals. A few weeks ago we lost our last remaining dog. I thought I would be fine without a dog. I was wrong. We had 4 cats but I quickly learned that there is something I get from dogs that I don't get from cats. So, I began thinking about getting another dog.

My husband, our daughter and I have had the chance to be a part of the selection process. Our son has not. He was diagnosed with Autism at age 2. He is 15 years old, cannot speak and still wears diapers quite often. It's challenging but I get a lot of joy out of being his mother.

I wanted him to be a part of finding our new pet. I tried to remember out of all the dogs we had met over the years, which ones interacted best with our son. During this time a friend posted on Facebook that they had recently found a lost dachshund. Then it hit me that the dogs that were coming to mind all looked like dachshunds.

I visited http://www.spca.org/ and found 3 adorable dachshunds available for adoption. Well, I married an animal lover so I knew showing him the picture is all it would take. So on a Saturday I had to take our daughter to an event, so my husband took our son to the SPCA to meet the dachshund trio. All went well and they began the adoption paperwork.

Later my husband told me that people working at the SPCA were very happy that the 3 dachshund dogs were getting a loving forever home and that they were all being adopted together. But they requested pictures and updates because they had become so close to the dogs.

So, that's the reason for this blog.

We have had these dogs for 3 days now but it didn't take 3 minutes to fall in love with them.

I had once thought that with our special needs son, diabetic daughter, economic worries, and everything else going on, that I wouldn't have enough time or energy for these new pets. Boy was I wrong! They infuse me with such unconditional love and positive energy. When they are not snuggling with my husband, spending time with them is like recharging my battery. I feel positively charged and ready to take on the day.

And to the former owner of these wonderful dogs - I know they were loved and I know that economy and job market has forced a lot of people to move and not be able to take their animal friends with them. I am so sorry and will pray that everything works out well for you. These great dogs have found our family. I send my biggest and best wishes in the hopes that great things find your family!
